Finalisation
We have just watched the New Year in Denmark over the internet. Usually we cannot watch Danish television over the internet, but tonight they had removed the block for foreign IP numbers so Danes in the diaspora could listen to the Danish Queen's New Year speech. Apparently Danish Television forgot to block the channel again, so we have left the "television" running in the kitchen all night.
We of course still have an hour here before midnight. Actually we have an hour and one second, as the last minute before midnight will be 61 seconds this year to adjust the clocks to the world rotation. Still have not decided what to use that extra second for. Wonder if you will be charged extra if you stay in a hotel tonight?
New Year's eve has not gone quite as we had planned it. Lisbeth's brother, his wife and daughter were flying over to celebrate it with us, but yesterday they called to say they all have got the flu and not able to come. There was not time to arrange anything else, so it has been Lisbeth, Maria, Lukas and me - but there was plenty of food!
It is a bit strange, it is so silent here. In Denmark we saw live television from the Town Hall at midnight and the amount of fireworks was incredible, but here there is of course no tradition for fireworks at New Year. We fired a few rockets a bit earlier, but there was nothing else going up into the sky. Strange, both for Denmark or Latvia.
Now we are just sitting waiting for midnight here in England. I had planned writing a long post about the year that is on the last lap, but I did not get round to it after a trip to Ikea and watching two episodes of The West Wing, maybe it will be tomorrow, maybe I just won't get round to it this year, or the next. This hour not only marks the last hour of 2008, it also marks the end of the -ation series of this blog. Don't know why I began it, but I am happy it is over.
Less than 20 minutes (and one second) before the New Year. The very final thing on this blog for this year is a wish for the small group of friends who come by this blog for a Happy and Blessed New Year. Look forward to meeting somewhere and somehow in 2009.
God Bless!
